Kujawiacy Polish Song & Dance Events

  • Margaret Sowa has been in Kujawiacy since its establishment in 1992.
  • She first started dancing when she was six years old in the group “Tecza”. It is in this group where her love of dancing first began, and continued when she joined Kujawiacy.
  • Under the instruction of Jan Mielcarek, Margaret took an interest in helping out with the youngest group at the time.
  • After her experience at the festival in Rzeszow in 1999, she had the opportunity to take the choreographer’s course in Poland, where she earned her degree in Polish choreography.
  • Margaret has a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Waterloo, where she also had the opportunity to study dance. Currently she is attending D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York, where she is earning her Teacher Certification. As of February 2008, Margaret has taken the
position of Artistic Director of the Ensemble.
  •  Along with teaching Polish dance in Kujawiacy, she bellydances, and takes hip hop classes to try and is continuously learning new styles of dance to incorporate into her choreography.

Message from the Instructor

Oh Hello!

Firstly, I would like thank my parents who constantly support my endeavours.  I would also like to extend a great thanks to my teacher Jan Mielcarek, who instilled in me the drive to keep working hard on my talents and skills.  Also, my teachers in Poland who inspired me to have strong ties to my Polish culture I thank them and their constructive criticism.  I also wish to thank my students who are enthusiastic and motivated to try new things, and work on current projects to be the best that they can be (Bootcamp!).

If you are interested in Polish dancing I strongly encourage you to come out to a practice and see what it is all about.  If you are not Polish, and are interested in finding out what our culture is all about, then Kujawiacy is definitely the place for you! I strive to keep everyone motivated and there is always a trick up my sleeve for when you are not.  I have ten years of experience working with children and young adults, and while earning my teaching degree I eagerly enforce my teaching knowledge at practices.

Hope to see you at practice!

~Margi~

Instructor Opportunities

  • This year two students are headed to Rzeszow to attend the choreographer's course, and hopefully become future choreographers for the group.
  • These two extremely talented ladies are Kasia Adams and Victoria Kufrejski. Best of luck in Poland!
